My favorite times to shoot the Everglades are February and March. Temperatures are bearable, nature is beginning to bloom and there are migrating and nesting birds everywhere! Three great tips I have learned over the years include:
Several of my favorite spots to shoot are shown here on this map of Everglades National Park:
Anhinga Trail and Gumbo Gumbo Limbo Trail are just inside the park entrance. And as you venture on down toward Flamingo Marina (which is a GREAT place to see lots of Manatee swimming around the docks) there is Pa-ha-okee overlook where I didn't see much wildlife but was great for the classic sweeping view of the Everglades. The drive from the entrance all the way to Flamingo Marina is breathtaking and you never know what kind of wildlife you will stumble upon when you least expect it! And, last but not least, is Shark Valley Wildlife Refuge. I recommend this location for morning light photography since soon after lunchtime the wildlife shooting along the canal is mostly shaded.
I can't finish my "Tips on the Everglades" post without mentioning the Best Italian / Pizza Place Ever! Mamma Mia Pizza.....I mostly used the kitchen in my Air B&B to warm up leftovers from this place <3!
What a fantastic stay at Lulu's Cottage through Air BnB! Such a great house and bonus photography fun with the resident Peacocks :).
